HBCU Anywhere is a passion project designed to connect students with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) through accessible, interactive, and technology-driven learning experiences. This initiative reflects my commitment to expanding awareness of HBCUs and their rich resources, while also incorporating the skills and strategies I gained through my educational technology coursework.
The Process:
1. Proposing the Idea:
The journey began with a proposal to the staff at Touro University, where I shared my vision of using technology to bridge the gap between students and HBCUs. After presenting the educational value and potential impact, my project received enthusiastic approval.
2. Finding a Platform for Implementation:
With the green light from Touro, I collaborated with a teacher willing to integrate my project into their classroom. This partnership provided a real-world opportunity to pilot HBCU Anywhere and gather valuable feedback.
3. Creating the Website:
Utilizing tools and techniques from my Instructional Technology courses, I designed an engaging, user-friendly website for HBCU Anywhere. The platform incorporates multimedia resources, interactive elements, and reliable information to immerse students in the HBCU experience.
4. Applying Coursework Knowledge:
Throughout the process, I applied skills such as website development, multimedia integration, and collaborative learning strategies. These were complemented by my deep understanding of instructional design and digital citizenship, ensuring the project was both educational and impactful.
HBCU Anywhere is more than a project, it’s a mission to empower students with knowledge, inspire their futures, and demonstrate how technology can break barriers in education. This experience reinforced my belief in the transformative power of technology and further fueled my passion for creating equitable access to educational opportunities.
